Inviting Women Who Desire Sabbath Renewal

Including Spiritual Nature Retreats for Clergywomen and Women in Ministry

In Woodstock, Illinois 65 miles west of Chicago

Who are "Women in Ministry"?

“Women in ministry” serve in the world as…

volunteers in a congregation or in the community, teachers or social workers, worship leaders, congregational teachers, caregivers, missionaries, non-profit organization leaders, and clergywomen. Such women and more are searching for a place to rest their weary heart and soul. Does this describe you?

This is Your Retreat

The overnight spiritual renewal nature retreat is designed for one to four women attending together as a group. There are no other guests during your stay. Each of the two second floor bedrooms has a queen bed and private bathroom along with a private covered balcony overlooking the woods. A bed on the first floor can be arranged next to a private bathroom that looks into the atrium outdoor garden and into the close by woods.

Length of Stay

What length of stay is best for you? You have the option of one night/two days or two nights/three days. Before deciding, start with being aware of what has brought you to think about a retreat at this time. It can sometimes take a first night to let go of the noise and busyness of everyday life and even more so when there is a heavy weight upon one’s heart.  There is also the practicality of arranging for time away that will dictate the length of stay.

Inquire about a Private self-directed retreat.

Limited openings. Please have several dates in mind when inquiring.

“Be still and know that I am God.”  Psalm 46:10

“Come to me all that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”    Matthew 11:28

Small Groups

Rev. Magrini is available to lead your small group of between eight and twelve women for an on-site daytime retreat. Select The Unhurried Sabbath or a current themed offering such as Spiritual Seasons With God. She is also available as the guest leader for your women’s retreat of any size held offsite and coordinated by your group. Please allow for advance lead time with arrangements.

Offering delicious healthy vegetarian meals is a central part of our mission. Light meals are provided using organic produce and non-gmo foods, keeping your dietary needs in mind. Seasonal produce from the Woodstock Farmers’ Market is featured from May through October.  The full kitchen is yours to use should you want to bring your own food and cook! For a two-night stay dinner is on your own the second night.

Become Centered

What is there to do? First, just be who you are away from all expectations, including your own. Imagine walking the trails in all seasons, napping in the loft, reclining with a book in the library, enjoying morning coffee in the atrium, listening to birdsongs, praying in quiet or with a singing bowl, and experiencing the large wooden tabletop labyrinth.

Women find renewal in friendships.

Directed Retreats

Women in ministry, whether within a faith community, or as a caregiver, volunteer, clergy spouse, just to name a few, will find this retreat soothing to the weary soul. We are your “home away from home.” You or up to three other women who register with you are the only retreat guests at the time of your stay.

You will arrange with Rev. Magrini specific times to meet as your spiritual guide in the retreat program. There is a generous amount of time on your own as well. You are encouraged to bring a journal, your Bible, along with inspirational books, music, or a sacred symbol from home, for example. Bring walking shoes and outdoor clothes for reflection on the wooded walking paths and enjoying the many native gardens.

Retreat Programs

Unhurried Sabbath is our cornerstone program.

In this retreat the focus is on your spiritual needs, leading to a sacred centering with God. Rev. Magrini guides through the rhythm of Release, Discovery, Renewal, and Celebration. She designed this program specifically for women in ministry in a range of service roles who are searching for spiritual nourishment and bodily restoration.

You will begin with conversation getting to know each other, then discovering what your spiritual needs, discernment path, faith questions and ways you are seeking God’s direction can best be experienced during the retreat.

Guest Review

Stilling the Restlessness

The spirit of Woodlands and the gracious hospitality moved me and refreshed me. The silence and privacy stilled my restlessness. Having time with Cheryl on a directed retreat was deeply satisfying when I was struggling with personal matters. Her gentle guidance shook me loose from the difficult places where I felt stuck. She gave me space to look at my life with fresh eyes again.

Refreshed and Renewed

Woodland Spiritual Retreats offers a delightful opportunity for Sabbath rest! Rev. Cheri Magrini’s “five-star” accommodations are just the start. Walk the woodland trails in any season, relax and meditate or peruse dozens of spiritual books. Enjoy the gardens, use art supplies, or wander the nearby forest preserve prairie. You’ll come away refreshed and renewed.
